LOL: The most repeated error by the community in the pre

The League of Legends game underwent major changes with the introduction of Patch 12.22. The 2023 preseason has come to the game with several changes, and one of its most curious effects has been the increase in resistance-based characters' popularity.

Both on the upper and jungle route, the tanks are being chosen much more often. Even those who have never been seduced by this type of hero were moved to try the news at the same time as they were introduced into the video game.

An object that deceives players

Riot Games has been able to draw the community's attention with the new items, especially with the steel heart. This item sells us the costume of becoming superpowered champions capable of accumulating amounts of over 6,000 life points in the final minutes of the game.

The problem is that this item can end up being a form of cheating. Although it works very well in some characters, it is generating many mistakes when choosing the next items for the champions.

This means that some champions are witnessing very unbalanced statistics compared to the rest of the build, especially when they choose to start with this item.

Observing data on the victory rate of League of Legends items, we can see that the steel heart is the second item with the lowest percentage victory rate.

Only ages, item that seems to need a Rework, has lower performance. These numbers are not definitive, as we know that the performance of the items cannot be analyzed only from the statistical point of view, as they can lead to wrong comparisons.

In general, when the user chooses to buy this item very early, the victory rate is worse. This is due to the factor that, depending on the champion, this item has no impact at the end of the game.

A problem that goes beyond mathematics

The real problem of this item and its statistics is that they generate an imbalance in the champions. Life points are the weaker defensive statistics in League of Legends, unless we are facing champions with a large amount of true damage.

This is due to several factors, but there are two very important and also easy to understand:

  • LOL has many mechanics that damage the champions based on their maximum health. There are examples in widely used items (sword of the destroyed king and Landry's anguish, for example) and also in characters (Dog'maw, Wayne, Lillian, Sett). Armor and magic resistance are the only way to combat this damage.
  • Cures rarely increase based on the maximum life of the character that receives it. Increasing armor and magic resistance makes each point of life more effective, having a positive impact on the game.

Of course in the game there are also mechanics that can attack the champions' armor and magic resistance or reduce it considerably. However, they are much less common and popular.

The destroyed king's sword item is the most used in the whole game, while black cleaver appears only in 4% of games. In addition, the reduction of resistance does not usually function percentage, but fixedly. This means buying more resistance is the right answer to combat this mechanics.

How does damage in League of Legends work?

Everything we've said so far does not imply that life points are a statistic to ignore in our next games, but that we should maintain a balance of balance that is very difficult to achieve when we bet on certain items.

From the mathematical point of view, the perfect amount of armor and magic resistance (added) that we should buy in a game is that that equals 15% of our champion's maximum life. These resistance points should also be distributed as similar as possible to Distribution of enemy team damage.

To reach this answer, we take into account the damage operation in League of Legends. Each additional point of armor or magic resistance always makes our life 1% more effective against this type of damage.

The

However, 1% over 1,000 hits equals 10; while 1% over 4,000 lifetimes is 40. This is what generates the need to balance.

In a scenario where there was no more mechanics, the perfect balance would be 10 armor points for every 100 of life (10%). Taking into consideration the existence of items and champions that attack based on the maximum HP of the opponent, we opted for a value closer to 15% that compensates for these situations.

Therefore, it is important to think a little more when setting up your build with resistance items and not only use 'stolen' items.
