CD Project Gog books Losses, changes are planned

GOG.com (previously Excellent Old Games) is a digital distribution platform for computer game and films. It is run by GOG SP. z o.o., an entirely possessed subsidiary of CD Project based in Warsaw, Poland. GOG.com delivers DRM-free video clip games via its digital platform for Microsoft Windows, macOS as well as Linux.

CD Project Red is known mainly for the Games The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. But the digital Storefront Gog.com belongs to the company. According to the last financial report of the company, however, this is not too good.

The investments of CD project have risen by 38 percent (about 30 million euros) by the sales of The Witcher and Doberman. GOG, however, posted losses of just under 2 million euros this year.

Gog should focus on the core business

In a presentation on the revenue of the third quarter of the year 2021, the CFO Piotr Nielubowicz, that GOG expect some organizational changes:

GOG's performance is a challenge, and recently we have taken action to improve its financial performance.

First and foremost, we decided that GOG should focus more on its core business, so offer a handpicked selection of games with its unique DRM-free philosophy. According to this approach, there will be changes in the team structure.

By just the offer of DRM-free games, Gog could compete with other large players like Steam and the Epic Games Store. Recently, there was actually a small outcry of the GOG community through the Hitman 3 Always Online Feature, which is why the title has been taken out of the assortment for the time being.

In the same financial report, CD project announced a large update for Cyberpunk 2077, which is to be published together with the next-gene version of the title in the first quarter of 2022.
